aoc faugeres : vins du Languedoc, cinsault, syrah, grenache, mourverdre, domaine bois de rose.

The vineyard of the Domaine Bois de Rose Estate is located on ancient hills on the southern slopes of the Noire Mountain, at the foot of the Pic de la Coquillade.
These hills are moderately sloped. Their surface is eroded, which explains the presence of numerous terraces and plantations along the contour lines of the landscape. 90% of the vineyard is trained in gobelet fashion, with only the Syrah grapes being suspended from wire in the Cordon de Royat manner. This style of plantation has the advantages of making mechanisation easier, limiting erosion and retaining water.

The Faugères designation of origin is fairly remarkable in the uniformity of its terrain. It is estimated that over 80% of the ground forms part of the geological network known as "Monts de Faugères", dating from the schisto-sandstone VISEEN (Primary Era).
This land contains some of the oldest soils in France.
The soils consist of clays produced by deposits left by the prehistoric sea. When hercynian folding took place, these clays were subjected to enormous pressures and very high temperatures, which created the schists present today.

Schist is a silicate rock and is also rich in aluminium and iron: approx. 60% silica (SiO2), 15% aluminium oxide (Al2O3) and smaller amounts of potassium (K) and calcium (Ca). Limestone is composed of 90% calcium carbonate (CaCO3).
Schist has excellent water-retaining properties, capable of holding almost 40% of its volume in water, and stores and slowly releases heat twice as effectively as limestone
.

Winemakers concluded from this that grapes grown on the land of the Faugères designation of origin ripen even at night.

The characteristics of the soil in this region, combined with a Mediterranean climate that is very dry in summer, has frost-free winters, a rainfall that is generally concentrated in the months between November and April and rarely exceeds 700 millimetres, and a predominantly northerly wind, produce certain characteristics in the wines produced here.
